Cycling Helmet Buying Guide for India
A cycling helmet must fit the rider securely and be intended for cycling. Price, aerodynamics and appearance matter only after fit, coverage and documented safety standards are checked.
Fit the helmet correctly
Measure around the widest part of the head and use the brand's size chart. The helmet should sit level, remain stable when the retention system is tightened and leave the straps forming a comfortable V around each ear.
Try the exact model where possible because internal shape varies between brands even when the circumference range is similar.
Road, mountain and commuting features
Road helmets often prioritise low weight and ventilation. Mountain-bike helmets may add rear coverage and a visor. Commuter designs may emphasise visibility and simple adjustment.
For hot Indian weather, ventilation and washable pads matter. Added rotational-impact systems can be considered, but they do not compensate for poor fit or crash damage.
Care and replacement
Follow the manufacturer's cleaning and replacement guidance. Replace a helmet after a significant impact, and do not use solvents, paint or unapproved accessories that may damage the shell or liner.
